Tragic Accident in Lagos: Cart Pusher Fatally Crushed by Truck Carrying Concrete Stones

…By Joseph Benjamin for TDPel Media. Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) made a gruesome discovery on Sunday as they recovered the body of a cart pusher who was crushed to death by a truck carrying a fully loaded container of concrete stones.

The incident occurred in the Dopemu area of the state, and it was confirmed by LASTMA spokesperson, Taofiq Adebayo.

Driver Flees the Scene, Driver’s License Found

According to Adebayo, the driver of the truck lost control while traveling at high speed, causing the truck to topple onto the cart pusher, resulting in instant fatality.

The driver of the truck managed to flee the scene, but LASTMA officials found a photocopy of his driver’s license at the accident site.

LASTMA and LASEMA Respond Swiftly

After a body was discovered trapped under the fallen container, a LASTMA official in the zone, Zebra Abdul-Akeem, alerted the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and local police.

The fallen container obstructed the BRT corridor, and the trapped body required immediate attention.

Body Recovered and Handed Over to the Hausa Community

Working together, the LASTMA and LASEMA teams successfully evacuated the fallen container from the BRT corridor.

The body of the deceased cart pusher was then handed over to members of the Hausa community in the Dopemu area.

It is noteworthy that the community mobilized themselves to the accident scene armed with dangerous weapons.

LASTMA Urges Adherence to Safety Standards

The General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged truck drivers and all motorists to strictly adhere to safety standards while driving on highways across the state.

Oreagba emphasized that speed limit road signs were installed to guide truck drivers and the motoring public regarding speed limitations throughout Lagos.
