Not long ago, Todd and Julie Chrisley were serving time behind bars, convicted of federal bank fraud and tax evasion.
Now, just weeks after a surprise presidential pardon, the reality TV couple is reflecting on their emotional release—and the unexpected call that changed everything.
In a sit-down interview with Lara Trump for Fox News, the Chrisleys opened up about the whirlwind that began with a single phone call from their daughter Savannah.
Tears, Shock, and a Quick Hang-Up
Julie Chrisley, 52, recalled the moment she found out she’d been pardoned.
It was Savannah, 27, who broke the news during a phone call that quickly turned emotional.
“She just started shouting, ‘He did it! He signed [the pardon]!’” Julie said, explaining that she immediately burst into tears.
The other inmates around her, used to bad news, were confused and concerned.
Julie was so overwhelmed that she panicked and hung up on her daughter mid-call.
“It was the craziest thing,” she said with a laugh.
“Everyone was just looking at me like, ‘Are you okay?’”
Todd’s Cool Reaction Caught Guards Off Guard
While Julie was in tears, Todd Chrisley, 56, had a very different reaction when he heard he’d been pardoned.
“A guy stopped me and said, ‘Man, I think you just got pardoned,'” Todd recalled.
“I just said, ‘Yeah, OK,’ and kept walking.”
Even a corrections officer had to double-check that he was really alright.
Todd simply told him, “If I’m pardoned, I’m great.”
Eventually, Todd got serious. “Every night I prayed that God would return me to my wife and children—and He did,” he said, his voice dropping with emotion.
Savannah’s Mission and the Trump Call That Changed It All
For Savannah, this moment was years in the making.
Since her parents’ sentencing in 2022, she’s been their most vocal defender, repeatedly claiming their innocence and rallying for a pardon.
And when she finally got the call from Donald Trump himself, she could hardly believe it.
“I was walking into the grocery store when the president called me,” Savannah said.
“He told me he was reuniting my family. I couldn’t stop shaking.”
Later, she traveled to her dad’s Florida prison at 2 a.m. with no luggage, no change of clothes—just determination to bring him home.
“I’m just a daughter that wants her dad back,” she said.
A Family Divided, But Some Bonds Still Strong
Present for the emotional interview were Savannah and 19-year-old Grayson, who had gone to pick up Julie from prison.
Notably absent, however, were several family members.
Todd’s estranged son Kyle, 33, expressed his joy privately, calling the pardons “ecstatic news.”
But eldest daughter Lindsie, 35, who’s had long-standing tensions with the family, didn’t participate.
Nor did Chase, 29—though his absence raised more eyebrows.
Chase’s Legal Trouble and a Low-Key Return
Earlier this year, Chase faced his own legal woes after allegedly getting into a bar fight in Atlanta.
Reports say he was drunk, became aggressive, and slapped a bar manager.
His legal team denies the claims, saying Chase was simply trying to get home.
Since then, he’s announced he’s been alcohol-free for almost a month and has even launched a non-alcoholic seltzer brand.
But even with the family’s return to the spotlight, he’s remained quiet, sitting out the public celebrations.
From Reality TV to Real-Life Redemption
The Chrisleys’ story is far from over. According to TMZ, filming has already begun on a brand-new reality series centered around their release and comeback.
Camera crews followed Savannah and Grayson to both prisons as they reunited with their parents, though Trump’s phone call to Savannah wasn’t caught on film.
Savannah has even leaned into her support for Trump, dubbing herself “MAGA Barbie” and crediting Trump, Alice Johnson, and Ed Martin with reviewing her parents’ case and pushing for the pardons.
A Second Chance and New Beginnings
Todd and Julie’s conviction followed a nearly three-week trial, where they were found guilty of defrauding banks out of $30 million using fake documents, as well as committing wire fraud and tax evasion—all while flaunting their lavish lifestyle.
But now, after everything, the family is focused on healing and gratitude.
“I owe thanks to God,” Todd said simply.
And as they head back into the spotlight, it seems the Chrisleys are ready to start the next chapter—with cameras rolling once again.
