Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo could have been a contender for Player of the Season had he be given enough game time this term.

And that’s according to Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi who was asked about his contenders for the individual accolade.

Mngqithi believes Ngcobo could have offered Chiefs a lot this season, and his opinion is based on the shifts the 22-year-old put in last season.

The left-footer played 40 competitive matches for Chiefs last season, including 11 in the CAF Champions League and scored four goals.

However, Ngcobo often found himself on the bench or on the sidelines with injuries this season, and he could only manage 16 appearances with just two goals under his belt.

Nonetheless, Ngcobo isn’t the only Chiefs player that Mngqithi feels could be up there with the best in the league as he picked Keagan Dolly for the award.

He admitted that Keagan Dolly had a very good first season with Chiefs, and for that reason, he deserves the Player of the Season award alongside the Sundowns trio of Peter Shalulile, Themba Zwane and Andile Jali.

MNGQITHI INCLUDES A KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYER IN HIS PLAYER OF THE SEASON CONTENDERS

“I have seen a lot from my team. From my team, I think Peter deserves, Themba Zwane deserves, AJ deserves, honestly speaking,” Mngqithi told the media.

“But I also think Keagan deserves. Keagan Dolly had a very, very good season as well, and for that he deserves.

“There is a young player I thought he could have really set the stage alight this season based on his performances last season… the young Ngcobo from Kaizer Chiefs, central midfielder…

“I believe that boy, had he had a lot of games this season, there was a lot he could have offered but in terms of Player of the Season, I believe those that I’ve counted deserve,” added Mngqithi.
