The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Mele Kyari has reassured residents of the Federal Capital Territory that the long queues currently being experienced will end soon.
He stated this in Abuja, the nation’s capital while speaking to Newsmen  shortly after meeting with the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee investigating the state  of refineries in the country,
Kyari who attributed the current scarcity to the inability of tankers to supply products due to the Eid al-Fitr celebration of last week said about three hundred tankers with Petroleum products are expected in Abuja between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The GMD, who alluded to the scarcity to panic buying by residents, added that mechanisms are already in place to take care of the menace of black marketers who take advantage of the scarcity to make quick money.
Meanwhile at the meeting, the Chairman of the Adhoc committee investigating the state of refineries in the country, Mr Ganiyu Johnson has directed the GMD NNPC to submit all relevant documents regarding the contracts awarded for the rehabilitation of the nation’s refineries.
The lawmaker said the documents when submitted will help the committee carry out its mandate of ensuring the refineries function optimally as well as account for funds expended on these refineries.
In a remark, the GMD NNPC Kyari reiterated that the company has nothing to hide from Nigerians as regards the Nation’s refineries.
He however pledged to avail the committee with relevant documents to show their efforts in tackling the challenges in the oil and gas sector.
Though Nigeria exports crude oil as its main revenue source, it failed to reap the dividend of current prices at the international market, due to its inability to refine the product even for the country’s consumption.
