MK Party Looks for New Treasurer-General After Resignation
The UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party is now on the hunt for a new treasurer-general following the resignation of Thanti Mthanti.
This comes less than two months after he took on the role.
Mthanti announced his decision this week, citing both personal and professional commitments as the reason behind his departure.
Mthanti’s Resignation
In an official statement, the party revealed that Jacob Zuma, the leader of MK, had accepted Mthanti’s resignation with understanding.
His resignation took effect immediately.
The party noted that Mthanti had made the decision to step down after careful thought, weighing his various responsibilities.
They also acknowledged his long-standing dedication to the party, highlighting his significant leadership roles,
including his work as the convenor of national high command deployees to the Western Cape and chairing the communications sub-committee.
A party spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela,
expressed gratitude for Mthanti’s contributions, with President Zuma personally extending his appreciation for his service.
Former Springboks Coach Joins MK Party
In other news, the MK Party recently welcomed a new member—former Springboks coach, Peter de Villiers.
De Villiers was previously aligned with the Good Party, led by Minister of Tourism Patricia De Lille, before making the move to join the Zuma-led MK Party.
Social media posts have shown de Villiers visiting the farm of John Hlophe, the party’s deputy president and MP,
in the Western Cape.
This confirms his shift to the MK Party, which was later verified by a party spokesperson.
