Sifiso Myeni, Rooi Mahamutsa, and Lucky Mokoena, seasoned South African footballers, are facing an uncertain future with VTM FC in Botswana.
These players have been pivotal for VTM FC, consistently delivering strong performances on the field.
Myeni and Mahamutsa gained recognition during their tenure with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, while Mokoena made his mark at the now-defunct Free State Stars.
Mokoena and Mahamutsa joined VTM FC midway through the 2023/24 season.
Mokoena left Jwaneng Galaxy under Morena Ramoreboli’s management, while Mahamutsa arrived from South Africa’s second-tier side, TS Sporting.
Myeni, on the other hand, made his move before the 2022/23 campaign kicked off.
Club’s Recent Season and Future Plans
In the recently concluded season, the trio played a crucial role as VTM FC secured a sixth-place finish in the league standings.
The team amassed 37 points, including 10 victories, seven draws, and 13 defeats.
End of an Era
Unfortunately, VTM FC will not be competing in the Botswana Premier League next season, as confirmed by club president Vincent Mafuta.
Despite their promotion via playoffs in the 2022/23 season and finishing second in the second-tier league, the club has decided to discontinue its professional team status.
Potential for Change
Mafuta noted that while VTM FC won’t operate as a professional team anymore, the club’s Premier League status is up for sale.
He expressed openness to negotiations with interested parties.
This development marks a significant change for the players and the club, setting the stage for potential shifts in their careers and future endeavors in Botswana’s football landscape.
