Sihle Zikalala speaks out over faux radical economic transformation

The eThewkini region is the largest region for the ANC. Its made up of more than 100 000 members. This region often is the deciding voice on who takes up the KZN Premier position.

And that means it’s no surprise that Zikalala was in attendance and opened the conference on Saturday. Despite his job being on the line, Zikalala had A LOT to say.

“There is no doubt that we face declining fortunes because of ugly leadership contestations, internal squabbles, money politics, corruption and poor performance in government. All these factors tend to conspire to undermine the ANC’s legitimacy in the eyes of the electorate.”

Sihle Zikalala

He also went on to admit that the ANC has been infiltrated by “self-serving rogue elements and political careerists.”

Zikalala then went for the jugular. He seemingly called out former president Jacob Zuma and his supporters. Why? For failing to implement radical economic transformation policy while he was in government.

“There are those who are in government before. They did less to implement RET but today they call themselves a group of RET. You can not be deployed by the same movement to advance its policies. You keep quiet and don’t implement. Then you get out and begin to say no you stand for transformation.”

She is going head-to-head against current eThekwini municipality speaker Thabani Nyawose. His faction is titled “Renew, Revive and Unite”. He is seen as a strong supporter of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Gumede on the other hand, is an ally of former president Jacob Zuma. Her faction is titled “Unity”.
