Siboniso “Pa” Gaxa: Football Career, Legal Studies, and Current Endeavors

…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. Siboniso “Pa” Gaxa is a well-known figure in South African football.

Originally from the KwaMashu township in KwaZulu-Natal, Gaxa earned his nickname “Pa” due to his mature and wise nature as a child.

Football Career:

Gaxa’s professional football journey began in 2002 with SuperSport United, based in Pretoria.

He spent six seasons with the team before making a move to arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in 2008.

In 2010, Gaxa joined Belgian club Lierse SK, but he was released after the 2011/2012 season.

In May 2012, he signed a three-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs, which included an option to renew for one more year.

After leaving Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2015/2016 season, Gaxa went on to play for Bidvest Wits in 2016 and Ajax Cape Town in 2018.

Throughout his career, the 39-year-old defender won four Premier Soccer League (PSL) titles.

He earned two of these titles with Kaizer Chiefs and one each with Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United.

International Career:

Gaxa not only represented various clubs but also played for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.

He made his international debut in 2005 during a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde.

Gaxa was part of the South African squad in tournaments such as the 2006 African Cup of Nations, 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2010 FIFA World Cup, and 2013 African Cup of Nations.

Contractual Dispute with Kaizer Chiefs:

Despite his successes at Kaizer Chiefs, Gaxa had a contentious departure from the club in 2016.

He filed a case against the team, claiming unfair termination while he still had an existing contract.

The case took several years to resolve.

Current Endeavors:

The legal battle with Kaizer Chiefs inspired Gaxa to pursue a law degree.

He is currently in his final year of studies at Wits University. Additionally, Gaxa works as the Manager of Operations and Legal at Brand Arc, a media agency specializing in marketing, events, branding, and athlete, actor, and coach management.

Some notable personalities managed by the agency include Connie Ferguson, Thembi Seete, Mapaseka and Thabo Mokwele, Nhlanhla Mafu (formerly Nciza) of Mafikizolo, Basetsana Kumalo, and Leanne Manas.

Gaxa is passionate about fitness and remains dedicated to staying in shape.

As an avid long-distance runner, he completed the Two Oceans Marathon in 2019.

Although he missed the registration deadline, Gaxa had plans to participate in his first Comrades Marathon this year.

Gaxa established the PA Gaxa Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on empowering communities through sports, education, and wellness to promote social cohesion, particularly among youth.

Siboniso “Pa” Gaxa’s football career, legal studies, and current endeavors showcase his determination and diverse pursuits.

He continues to make an impact both on and off the field, leaving a lasting impression in the world of South African football and beyond.
