Shakur Stevenson’s much-anticipated world title fight against Floyd Schofield has been abruptly called off.
The cancellation comes just days before a star-packed boxing event scheduled for Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The card, featuring a number of world title bouts, will now be missing one key matchup, adding to the drama surrounding the event.
Schofield’s Mysterious Disappearance and Wild ‘Poison’ Theory
The situation took a bizarre turn when Schofield, who had arrived in Saudi Arabia and completed his media duties on Monday, suddenly vanished on Tuesday.
He was notably absent at the grand arrivals event, which sparked rumors and speculation among fans and commentators.
A shocking “poison” theory has since gained traction online.
According to leaked messages, Schofield’s father, Floyd Schofield Sr., allegedly accused unknown parties of poisoning his son.
A message reportedly sent to Schofield Sr. and later shared online read: “This isn’t something to take lightly Sr. I’m not trying to play no games.
I got love for y’all and looking out, but they spiked your son.”
Stevenson May Face New Opponent on the Night of the Event
With Schofield’s withdrawal, matchmakers are now scrambling to find a replacement opponent for Stevenson, leaving fans uncertain about the revised fight card.
Meanwhile, other major fights, such as those involving Daniel Dubois, Joseph Parker, and Callum Smith, will proceed as planned, making this event still one to watch for boxing enthusiasts.
Beterbiev and Bivol’s Highly-Anticipated Rematch Remains the Main Event
Despite the setback, the eyes of the boxing world will still be on the rematch between Russian fighters Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
The two are set to clash once more in a bout for the undisputed world light heavyweight championship after Beterbiev made history earlier this year as the first undisputed champion in the division since 2002.
Their previous encounter in October sparked controversy due to disputed scorecards.
While two judges had Beterbiev winning narrowly, one judge’s score of 116-112 sparked outrage from Bivol’s camp, leading his promoter, Eddie Hearn, to call the decision an “absolute joke.”
Bivol’s team is reportedly planning to file a protest against the controversial scorecard, with manager Vadim Kornilov accusing the judges of misconduct.
Kornilov has even hinted that the boxing community’s connections may be contributing to what he sees as a damaging trend within the sport.
Despite the chaos surrounding Stevenson and Schofield’s fight, all eyes will be on the ring in Riyadh for what promises to be an unforgettable night of boxing.
