On Wednesday (13 July 2022) at NATO Headquarters, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Prime Minister Edi Rama and expressed gratitude for Albania’s efforts to the Alliance.

He appreciated Albania’s efforts to the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo as well as to the Alliance’s multinational battle-groups in Latvia and Bulgaria.

Additionally, the Secretary General commended Albania for its dedication to fostering peace and collaboration in the Western Balkans.

Mr. Stoltenberg praised Albania for swiftly ratifying the accession protocols for both nations after noting the decision by the Allies to extend invitations to Finland and Sweden to join NATO.

This demonstrates that NATO’s door is still open and that we are still fighting for each country’s right to follow its own course, the official said.

Along with the barbaric Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Secretary General and Prime Minister Rama also spoke about NATO’s ongoing assistance to Kiev.

Mr. Stoltenberg stated, “I appreciate Albania’s support for Ukraine, especially your recent commitment of humanitarian aid, and your recent visit to Ukraine was a significant expression of solidarity.
