It seems that Vladimir Putin has taken drastic measures regarding his lavish properties along the Black Sea.
With rising concerns over safety, reports indicate that he has completely demolished one of his main palaces.
This bold move comes amid fears that his favorite getaway spots could be vulnerable to Ukrainian drone strikes, leaving the Russian president feeling more anxious than ever.
Fear of Drone Attacks
A recent investigation by the independent media outlet Proekt suggests that Putin is “truly afraid” of becoming a target for Ukrainian kamikaze drones.
As he celebrates his 72nd birthday today, it’s clear that this concern has dramatically influenced his lifestyle.
Over the years, he frequently visited the opulent Bocharov Ruchey palace in Sochi, a stunning location designed by Stalin.
He also owns a massive clifftop retreat in Gelendzhik, which has drawn comparisons to a James Bond villain’s lair, complete with luxurious upper levels and secret tunnels hidden beneath.
The Love Nests Turned Fortresses
These extravagant residences were often seen as private getaways for Putin and his rumored partner, former Olympic gymnast Alina Kabaeva, along with their young children.
However, it seems the atmosphere of luxury has given way to paranoia.
Reports suggest that Bocharov Ruchey was razed to the ground, with recent satellite images confirming its transformation into a mere pit of earth.
Since Ukrainian drone attacks began targeting Russian territory, Putin has largely avoided his usual visits to Sochi and the Krasnodar region.
Why the Sudden Demolition?
The demolition of Bocharov Ruchey has raised many eyebrows.
Why would a newly renovated luxury residence be torn down?
According to the Proekt report, the most likely explanation is Putin’s escalating fear of drone attacks.
An acquaintance of the president revealed that he has been genuinely scared to fly south.
This is a stark contrast to his earlier visits, such as hosting UK Prime Minister David Cameron there back in 2013.
Speculations of a New Palace
Some speculate that this demolition could be a cover for an even grander scheme.
There are rumors that Putin plans to construct a more luxurious palace on the very site where the former Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev had a building completed.
If this theory holds true, the new development may boast enhanced bunker facilities tailored to Putin’s growing fears of assassination attempts, especially since the conflict in Ukraine escalated.
A Hidden Agenda?
Interestingly, Proekt pointed out that the Russian public has not been informed about the destruction of Bocharov Ruchey, likely because these opulent residences are situated in protected areas.
As Putin’s paranoia mounts, one has to wonder: what’s next for the Russian leader and his ever-changing landscape of luxury and fear?
