…By Joseph Benjamin for TDPel Media. The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has disclosed the total monthly salary and allowances for each senator in the forthcoming 10th National Assembly.
This information comes ahead of the inauguration of the new assembly.
Breakdown of Senators’ Entitlements
Ibrahim Mohammed, the spokesperson for the commission, provided details on the entitlements that incoming lawmakers will enjoy.
These include a basic salary of N168,866.70, a car maintenance and fuel allowance of N126,650, and salaries for personal assistants and domestic staff amounting to N42,216.66 and N126,650, respectively.
Additionally, an entertainment allowance of N50,660 is included.
Other Allowances for Senators
Apart from the aforementioned entitlements, senators also receive allowances for utilities (N50,660), newspapers/periodicals (N25,330), wardrobe (N42,216.66), house maintenance (N8,443.33), and constituency (N422,166.66).
These allowances are categorized as regular and non-regular, with regular allowances being paid consistently along with the basic salary.
Inauguration Date and Election of Principal Officers
The lawmakers elected during the February 25th National Assembly election are set to be inaugurated on June 13, 2023.
Following the inauguration, the lawmakers will proceed to elect their principal officers who will guide them throughout their four-year term.
Attention on the Selection of Senate President and Speaker
Considerable attention has been focused on the succession of Ahmad Lawan as the Senate President and Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The appointment of these key leadership positions is eagerly anticipated and will significantly impact the direction and functioning of the National Assembly.
