RIP Runaldo: More details on ‘Getroud met Rugby’ star’s death

“Getroud met Rugby can confirm that Runaldo Hendricks passed away in a car accident this morning. Further details have not yet been confirmed. For us at Getroud met Rugby, it’s very sad to hear about his passing, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones,” said Michelle Nortje, Overberg Productions publicist, to Channel 24.

So, what exactly happened? Hendricks and four other people were on their way to a rugby match in a Bantam bakkie with a canopy, which rolled between Paarl and Saron.

Hendricks was seated at the back and was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled. According to Netwerk 24, the actor was said to have died on the scene. The others in the vehicle suffered light injuries.

The family spokesperson Sharmun Erasmus told the publication that Runaldo’s grandmother Magdelena Dankers is not taking the news well.

The Gretroud met Rugby star had been living with his grandmother while sorting out his moving arrangements back to the Cape from Pretoria. This was because Getroud met Rugby has recently been suspended.

“He has no children and got divorced last year. His mother died in 2017,” Erasmus told Netwerk 24.

“She was one of the main pillars in his life and the springboard that led him to his life and career in Pretoria,” Erasmus went on to say about Runaldo’s mom.

The actor passed away just days before his 28th birthday on Thursday 4 May.
