South African DJ and hip-hop artist Tumi Mooi, popularly known as DJ Dimplez, passed away on Sunday 6 March.

DJ DIMPLEZ PASSES ON 

Tshisa LIVE reported that DJ Dimplez has passed away but the family is yet to release a statement. Several sources have confirmed the hip-hop artist’s death to the publication and celebrities such as Bonang, Sizwe Dhlomo and more have tweeted about DJ Dimplez death.

So, what do we know about the hip-hop artist?

1. HE BEGAN HIS CAREER IN 2004 

The DJ began his deejaying career back in 2004.

2 DJ DIMPLEZ WORKED ON METRO FM 

The hop-hop artist landed himself a slot on Metro FM which was presented by T’bo Touch and included the likes of DJ Milkshake and more. Over the years the DJ formed DJ outfit MVD – including DJs Milkshake and Vigilante.

3. HE IS FROM SOWETO

DJ Dimplez is from Diepkloof, Soweto.

4. HE THOUGHT ‘DJ TUMI’ WAS DID NOT APPEAL TO CHANNEL O 

The DJ initially went as DJ Tumi but he thought that did not appeal to Channel O.  So, the name DJ Dimplez came up just 10 seconds before the camera started rolling on the popular show O-Boma. This marked the turning point of his career.

5. DJ DIMPLEZ WAS THE BRAINS BEHIND ‘POP BOTTLES’ 

The DJ was the brains behind Pop Bottles – which is dubbed as one of the most successful events in Johannesburg.
