Rema’s Hit Single Becomes the first African song to spend 52 weeks straight on the Billboard Hot 100 list!

With his number-one single “Calm Down,” renowned African musician Rema has gained notoriety on a global scale.

This number-one hit has received certifications from numerous nations and made history by becoming the first African song to spend 52 weeks straight on the Billboard Hot 100 list!

The hit song “Calm Down” by Rema and Selena Gomez has witnessed a modest drop in the rankings this week, falling five ranks to number 11 (chart week of September 9, 2023).

Despite this, the song, which previously peaked at number three, has been on the chart for an incredible 52 weeks and counting.

Notably, ‘Calm Down’ presently retains the record for the highest-charting Nigerian song and is the second-highest charting African song, with the number one position being held by Hugh Masekala’s 1968 single ‘Grazing in the Grass’.

The lead song from Rema’s debut album, “Raves & Roses,” “Calm Down,” has been in the top spot since its release in February 2022.

The song’s appeal has reached new heights thanks to Selena Gomez’s remix.

It has broken records as the most-streamed afrobeats song in Spotify history, the most-watched Nigerian artist music video on YouTube, and the best-known African tune globally.

For the 2023 VMAs’ Song of the Year and Collaboration of the Year categories, ‘Calm Down’ has gotten nominations this year.
