Significance of the Awards Ceremony Date Notably, the awards ceremony coincides with the eve of a poignant anniversary—the first anniversary of the passing of Prince Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen, who reigned for an astounding 70 years, passed away peacefully at Balmoral in Scotland on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.

Harry’s Longstanding Patronage Prince Harry has been a dedicated patron of WellChild for 15 years, consistently attending its annual awards ceremony. However, it is not expected that the Duchess of Sussex will accompany him to this year’s event. In 2022, the awards coincided with the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, leading the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to withdraw from the ceremony as Prince Harry joined other members of the royal family in Scotland.
Inspirational Cause The WellChild Awards ceremony serves as a prelude to Prince Harry’s upcoming Invictus Games, scheduled to commence in Dusseldorf, Germany, on Saturday and span eight days.
