Police Encounter Unusual Car Modification:
During a routine operation in Bradford, West Yorkshire, police officers were met with an unexpected sight when they pulled over a driver who had attempted to conceal damage from a recent car crash.
Unconventional Cover-Up Discovered:
Upon inspection, the officers discovered that the driver had used wallpaper and brown parcel tape to mask the damage sustained by his silver Toyota Yaris.
The vehicle’s passenger door had been significantly damaged in the crash, but instead of seeking proper repairs, the driver opted for a makeshift solution.
Operation Steerside Joint Initiative:
The encounter took place as part of Operation Steerside, a collaborative effort between West Yorkshire Police, Bradford Council’s Taxi Licensing and Enforcement Department, and the DVSA.
This operation aims to ensure the safety and roadworthiness of vehicles operating in the area.
Safety Concerns and Traffic Offenses:
Aside from the unconventional car modification, several other issues were identified during the operation. Various private hire taxis and other vehicles were taken off the road due to defects found during inspections.
Additionally, drivers were dealt with for traffic offenses such as failing to wear seatbelts, using mobile phones while driving, and driving without insurance.
Driver Reported for Dangerous Condition:
The driver of the wallpapered Toyota Yaris was promptly reported for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition, along with a bald tire issue.
The DVSA prohibited the vehicle from being driven further, emphasizing the seriousness of the safety concerns.

West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Steerside Team has been actively engaged in tackling dangerous and anti-social driving behaviors in Bradford since 2016.
