A man was taken into custody following an alarming scene outside the Houses of Parliament.

Armed officers and police vehicles rushed to the area in front of Carriage Gates, a major entrance to the Palace of Westminster, on Tuesday afternoon after reports emerged of a man carrying knives.

Police Response and Arrest

The suspect, a man dressed in a red hoodie, was quickly handcuffed and surrounded by police.

Eyewitnesses noted that he appeared to be wearing what looked like homemade body armor.

Officers detained him and placed him in a police van for transport.

Area Secured, No Injuries Reported

The area was immediately cordoned off, and Carriage Gates, a commonly used entrance by Members of Parliament, was shut off to the public.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Authorities have confirmed that the situation is not considered to be terrorism-related at this time.

Statement from the Authorities

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said they received a call at 2:01 pm regarding the man in possession of knives.

The 34-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.

He was taken to a police station for further questioning.

A representative from the UK Parliament also addressed the situation, stating, “We are aware of the incident outside Carriage Gates.

Parliamentary Security and the Metropolitan Police are present and managing the situation.”

At this stage, the investigation continues, but there are no indications that the event was connected to terrorism.
