Pitso Mosimane Faces Financial Struggles as Esteghlal Owes Coach Significant Amount in Iran

Pitso Mosimane, South Africa’s most celebrated football coach, is currently navigating a challenging situation overseas.

The head coach of Iranian football club Esteghlal, Mosimane has quickly settled into life in Iran after taking on the role at the start of the current season.

However, despite his success on the pitch, off-field issues are causing tension.

Mosimane’s Journey and Esteghlal’s Expectations

Known affectionately as “Jingles,” Mosimane’s reputation as one of Africa’s top coaches precedes him.

His impressive track record includes multiple CAF Champions League titles, achieved with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly.

Esteghlal recognized his pedigree and brought him on board to help lead the club to continental success.

His experience coaching in the Gulf region, including stints in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, added to his appeal.

Though the start of his time at Esteghlal was a bit rocky, Mosimane has begun to show his worth.

The club is now enjoying an unbeaten nine-game streak, which suggests his leadership is beginning to pay off.

Despite the positive momentum on the field, however, financial troubles are threatening to overshadow the success.

Financial Tensions: Outstanding Payments and Sanctions

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Esteghlal owes Mosimane and his staff a significant amount of money.

Rumors suggested that Mosimane was prepared to leave the club if the debt wasn’t cleared within 15 days.

According to KickOff.com, which cited Iranian media sources, Esteghlal is now making an effort to pay Mosimane.

The Iranian press reported that two deposits had been made into Mosimane’s account as requested, but sanctions preventing Iranian transactions to South African banks led to the payments being unsuccessful.

As a result, Esteghlal’s management has reportedly offered to pay Mosimane in cash when he returns to Iran from South Africa.

Alternatively, they suggested using accounts in the United Arab Emirates or Qatar, but this would delay the payment by a few days.

What’s Next for Mosimane?

The financial uncertainty raises the question of whether Mosimane should accept the cash and consider his future at Esteghlal.

Some speculate that after seeing these red flags, Mosimane might choose to leave at the end of the season.
