National Assembly Programme Committee Chairperson and Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says Parliament is committed to processing the State Capture report once it is brought before it.

Mapisa-Nqakula has told the Programme Committee that the delay in receiving the report does not mean Parliament is not acting on the reports.

This came after some members of the committee insisted that Parliament should start working on the report while awaiting President Cyril Ramaphosa to submit the final one.

The President has to officially submit and handover the Zondo report to Parliament before the national legislature can engage on it.

Mapisa-Nqakula explains: “Of course Parliament has committed that once the President sends the report to Parliament after four months, in fact the President will not just be providing us with a report, he will be submitting a plan of action on how to deal with the recommendations on the Zondo Commission report.”

“Parliament will then deal [with] among others with areas which directly affect their work of oversight in the different Portfolio. So there is no doubt that Parliament will deal with the Zondo report,” explains Mapisa-Nqakula.

In the Part Four State Capture Report, Eskom, National Treasury and Free State asbestos scandal are under the spotlight:
