Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde Dissolves Executive Council, Initiates Government Transition

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has announced the dissolution of the state executive council.

The decision was communicated through a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor and Chairman of the Transition & Inauguration Committee, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi.

Termination of Appointments and Property Handover

According to the statement, the appointments of all political office holders in the state have been terminated.

The affected individuals have been instructed to hand over all government property under their possession to the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

Exclusion of Political Officeholders in Statutory Commissions

Governor Makinde clarified that the directive does not apply to political officeholders serving in statutory commissions.

The statement reads: “I have the directive of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, to inform you of the dissolution of the Oyo State Executive Council and the termination of the appointment of all political officeholders with effect from today, Tuesday, May 23, 2023.”

The statement concludes by expressing Governor Makinde’s appreciation for the contributions made by the political officeholders to the development of the state.
