Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has stated that he has become financially poorer since taking office in 2019.
He attributes this decline in wealth to his dedication to the affairs of the state, which has left him with little time to focus on his personal business.
Governor Makinde’s Asset Declaration and Commitment:
When Governor Makinde began his first term in office, he declared assets valued at N48 billion.
Recently, he submitted his Asset Declaration form for his first term and the beginning of his second term at the Code of Conduct Bureau office in Ibadan.
Makinde mentioned that the details of his new asset declaration would be disclosed to the public in due course.
Governor Makinde’s Statement:
During a conversation with reporters, Governor Makinde explained that he has experienced a decrease in wealth of approximately 10 to 12 percent over the past four years.
He clarified that this decline is primarily due to his focus on managing the affairs of Oyo State rather than attending to his personal business interests.
Despite the financial setbacks, he expressed contentment with his current situation.
Deputy Governor’s Asset Declaration:
Alongside Governor Makinde, his deputy, Bayo Lawal, also submitted his Asset Declaration form.
This declaration process was witnessed by members of the Code of Conduct Bureau, including Rt. Hon. Taofeek Abdulsalam and Lagos State Director of the Bureau, Mrs. O. Popoola.
Asset Declaration by Governor Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Hamzat:
In a similar development, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, have also completed their Asset Declaration process.
They fulfilled the necessary requirements before assuming their respective offices.
The asset declaration was administered by Prof. Samuel Ogundare, a Board Member representing the Southwest Zone.
Governor Makinde’s assertion of decreased wealth highlights his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities as the leader of Oyo State.
Alongside other public officials like Governor Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Hamzat, Makinde has fulfilled the necessary asset declaration requirements, ensuring transparency in their public service roles.
