Orlando Pirates Face Setback in Signing Fawaaz Basadien
Orlando Pirates seem to be hitting a roadblock in their pursuit of Bafana Bafana defender Fawaaz Basadien. Despite months of negotiations, there has been little progress, and the club now appears to be shifting focus elsewhere.
New Target: Vuyo Letlapa from Sekhukhune United
With time running out, the Soweto giants are now reportedly eyeing Vuyo Letlapa, a 21-year-old defender from Sekhukhune United, as a potential replacement. Letlapa has had an impressive debut season in the DStv Premiership, contributing two assists in ten matches while solidifying an already strong defensive line.
The Rumors Begin
The move for Basadien had been a priority for Orlando Pirates, but now it looks like they’ve hit a dead end. A source from SoccerLaduma noted that despite his potential, Basadien’s future remains uncertain, and that’s why Pirates are considering Letlapa as a backup option. “He’s still young, with a bright future ahead, as long as he stays grounded,” the source shared.
While Letlapa doesn’t yet have Basadien’s level of experience, his consistent performances have caught the eye of major clubs, with the source adding that these teams see great promise in him.
Confirmation of Interest from Both Pirates and Sundowns
Interest in Letlapa is not limited to Pirates alone. Another source confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns is also keeping tabs on the young defender. “It’s not surprising these two clubs are after him,” the source said. “He’s dedicated, hardworking, and has proven himself in a very short time, having been signed from Jomo Cosmos in the ABC Motsepe League.”
Letlapa’s rapid rise has certainly impressed, and regardless of which club he ends up with, those following his career believe he has a bright future ahead.
