Orlando Pirates BOMBARDED Kaizer Chiefs! – Stuart Baxter

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has opened up about his side’s performance during their remarkable Soweto derby victory over Orlando Pirates.

Despite coming out victorious, and most importantly earning much needed bragging rights, Stuart Baxter was dissatisfied with his side’s second half performance.

Kaizer Chiefs took the lead thanks to a Reeve Frosler stunner in the 18th minute however Orlando Pirates striker Kwame Peprah leveled matters in the 54th minute.

The Buccaneers gained the front foot in the latter part of the match however the Amakhosi managed to steal three points from the Orlando Stadium thanks to an Eric Mathoho header in the 81st minute.

Orlando Pirates BOMBARDED Kaizer Chiefs – Baxter

Orlando Pirates had numerous opportunities to find a second goal on the day but Brandon Petersen and the woodwork stood firmly in their way!

Despite the win, Stuart Baxter believes his side have to learn how to do better to close out games in the future.

“After we scored, Orlando Pirates threw the kitchen sink at us. They managed to get a goal back and bombarded us.” Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter said as quoted by Citizen.

“It was a terrible mistake by us. They managed to get behind us, they picked up second-balls and worked flick-ons. We scored the second goal, we thought it’s all over but it was not.

“We did not manage those last 10 minutes properly and Orlando Pirates were working their socks off. It became a battle to preserve what Kaizer Chiefs got.

“In a game like that, we could have ended up giving away victory. But, delighted to have won the derby, however, we will have to be better than that. I thought it was a tough derby. We did well in the first half when we were well organised.”

The victory for Kaizer Chiefs meant the Glamour Boys go four points clear of their arch rivals however Royal AM’s win on Sunday evening means the Amakhosi finish the weekend in third position on the DStv Premiership log standings.
