Northern Elders Forum (NEF) Disassociates from Publication Against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has issued a statement disavowing a publication made by its Director of Advocacy and Publicity, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, wherein he offered advice to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The publication, titled “Advice to the Tinubu Administration,” contained recommendations on how President Tinubu should communicate with Nigerians about his policies and address the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

Additionally, Baba-Ahmed emphasized the importance of fighting corruption to address various societal issues in Nigeria.

The NEF, however, clarified that the publication does not represent their views and was not subjected to the required approval procedure.

Tinubu’s Administration and Communication with Nigerians:

In his publication, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed advised President Tinubu to maintain periodic communication with Nigerians, providing updates on his policies and plans to alleviate the hardships caused by the fuel subsidy removal.

Such communication, according to Baba-Ahmed, would foster transparency and engagement with the citizens.

Fighting Corruption as a Priority:

Baba-Ahmed highlighted the significance of combating corruption, stating that it serves as the root cause of insecurity, societal corruption, and the erosion of values in Nigeria.

He suggested that if President Tinubu effectively curbs corruption both within the government and among the populace, the issue of insecurity could be resolved within a relatively short period.

The Role of Bright Minds in Tackling Corruption:

The NEF spokesman expressed hope that President Tinubu would surround himself with knowledgeable individuals who can contribute innovative ideas to combat corruption.

The inclusion of such bright minds could potentially strengthen the government’s efforts to address this critical issue and foster a more accountable and transparent administration.

NEF’s Disavowal of the Publication:

In response to the publication by Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the NEF’s Director General, Doknan Sheni, issued a statement asserting that the views expressed in the publication do not align with the Forum’s official stance.

Sheni clarified that any publication released by the NEF undergoes a strict approval procedure, which was not followed in this instance.

As a result, the NEF distanced itself from the publication and all its implications, emphasizing that it was solely the personal opinion of Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed.

The Northern Elders Forum’s disavowal of the publication against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by its Director of Advocacy and Publicity, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, clarifies that the views expressed in the publication are not representative of the NEF’s stance.

The Forum stressed the importance of adhering to their approval procedure for press releases and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering transparency and accountability in all its communications.
