Nintendo Direct: Gamers anticipate June Showcase

Several sources point to a Nintendo Direct in late June, but there’s no news on what will be unveiled.

Only the Nintendo Direct, when it comes to gaming showcases, can get people talking about it even if one hasn’t happened yet. Given the time of year, when an E3-related show would ordinarily be held, the clamor for fresh Nintendo news is particularly high right now.

Apart from the fact that June is E3, Sony and Microsoft have already held June presentations. So, when do you think Nintendo will follow suit?

As is customary, the corporation is keeping mum, but many sources now indicate that one will take place at the end of the month.

A Nintendo Direct in June was always a safe bet, given the firm has held at least one in June every year since 2012.

There was talk that it might happen this week, but since that hasn’t been confirmed, that hypothesis can generally be dismissed (though it wasn’t strictly incorrect, as these things are sometimes rescheduled or postponed).

Alanah Pearce, a former IGN journalist who now works at God of War: Ragnarök developer Santa Monica Studio, made the first claim for later this month. So it’s odd that the first person to announce a date for a Nintendo presentation is a Sony employee.

Pearce stated during a Twitch livestream following the latest Xbox presentation that a Nintendo Direct will be released on Wednesday, June 29.

While she stated that she did not receive this information directly from Nintendo, she appears to be sure in her assertion and does not convey it as her own guess. At the 2:00:10 mark, you can hear her say something.

On the Famiboards forums, industry insider NateDrake has subsequently confirmed Pearce’s comments, however they suggest the date could be a day sooner on June 28.

NateDrake had previously stated that Nintendo 64 games would be included to the Nintendo Switch online service as part of a more premium subscription, which proved to be correct.

Direct-Feed Games’ Twitter account claims it’s heard the same thing, while YouTube channel GameXplain believes Pierce’s assertion matches their own data.

Pearce was accused of being uninformed and mistaking a Nintendo Direct for a shareholders meeting, according to others. One is planned for June 29, and it would be unusual for a Nintendo Direct to take place on the same day.

Except that June 29 in Japan is June 28 in the United States. As a result, any Direct that occurs on June 29 will fall on June 30 in Japan.

The Direct is more likely to take place before the annual shareholders meeting. It wouldn’t make sense for Nintendo to host a shareholder meeting before announcing a slew of new announcements that might have an impact on the company’s stock price.
