NIMC Management warns against unprofessional reporting

Fact Checked by TDPel News Desk
By Pelumi Emmanuel

The Nigerian Tribune published an erroneous and malicious news report on June 7, 2022, with the deceptive and misleading headline: Did the Nigerian Information Management Commission (NIMC) lose the NIN records of 7.9 million Nigerians?

The writer of the said deceptive report implied that NIMC had lost 7.9 million Nigerian NIN records, the writer also provided various inaccuracies of the NIMC database in an attempt to confuse and mislead the general public, including incorrectly stating that the National Identification Number (NIN) is a 10-digit number.

The NIMC Management wishes to reassure Nigerians that our database is secure and unbreakable, and that no NIN records have gone missing. The NIN is also an 11-digit unique number, as is well known.

As a result, we advise Nigerians to disregard the aforementioned report, which is the result of the author’s childish imagination. We further encourage the Nigerian Tribune, which has been publishing continuously since November 1949, to refrain from being utilized as a platform for such unprofessional reporting.
