Nigerian Army and DSS Uncover IPOB Hideouts in Delta State

…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), conducted a joint operation to uncover hideouts of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Delta State.

This operation took place on Saturday, July 22, 2023, resulting in the discovery of several locations where IPOB members were taking refuge.

Engagement and Arrest:

During the operation, security operatives engaged in a gunfight with IPOB members in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State.

The confrontations led to the fleeing of numerous IPOB members from their respective camps.

The troops, who belonged to the 63 Brigade Garrison under the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, along with DSS operatives, managed to arrest one of the fighters during the encounter.

Recovery of Weapons:

In addition to apprehending one of the members, the security forces recovered various weapons and ammunition from the hideouts.

The seized items included 5 AK 47 Rifles, three pump action semi-automatic rifles, one G3 rifle, one single barrel gun, live cartridges, an electric saw, machetes, an axe, and an IPOB flag.

Official Statement:

Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, confirmed the operation’s success in a press briefing in Abuja.

He emphasized the army’s commitment to tackling criminal activities in the country.

He further stated that the clearance operation successfully destroyed the IPOB/ESN enclave in Asaba, Delta State.

Overpowering the Fighters:

The troops carried out a raid operation on the fortified enclave located within a forested high ground early in the morning.

During the encounter, they effectively overpowered the IPOB fighters, forcing them to abandon their hideout in disarray.

As part of their ongoing efforts, the troops also destroyed the enclave and pursued the fleeing fighters into the forest.

Chief of Army Staff’s Directive:

Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, emphasized that those posing threats to the country’s peace should not be dealt with lightly.

His directive urged the security forces to take decisive action against criminal elements and to continue their efforts to restore order and stability in the region.

Commendation and Call for Sustained Effort:

In the aftermath of the operation, Maj.-Gen. Lagbaja commended the troops and other security agencies involved for their dedication and success in the ongoing operations.

He encouraged them to sustain their momentum in restoring peace and sanity in the region, ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
