…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. The recently inaugurated Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has addressed the demands for his resignation, which emerged shortly after his administration took office.
He firmly stated his refusal to be influenced by anonymous groups pressuring him to form his cabinet prematurely.
Indigenes Challenge the Governor’s Authority:
In a previous report by Naija News, the Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) raised concerns about the governor’s leadership and called on him to take full control of his government or step down from his position.
The group alleged that the former governor, David Umahi, was clandestinely controlling the affairs of the state, and criticized the lack of tangible signs of governance, including the absence of cabinet appointments.
Governor Nwifuru’s Response:
In response to the allegations made by the diaspora group, Governor Nwifuru’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, issued a statement.
The governor emphasized that he would not allow any unidentified group to exert undue influence on him, as their opinion does not determine the strength or weakness of his administration.
Governor’s Deliberate Approach to Appointments:
Governor Nwifuru explained that he is taking the necessary time to carefully select professionals from various fields to assist him in implementing his policies and programs.
He made it clear that he would not be pressured into making hasty appointments solely to appease a particular group, especially one that has historically opposed every administration in Ebonyi State.
Principal Appointments Do Not Define Administration’s Strength:
The governor dismissed the diaspora group’s claim that the absence of principal appointments indicated a weak administration.
He reassured the people of Ebonyi State that he is focused on bringing experienced and capable individuals into the governance of the state, without succumbing to the whims and fancies of opposition elements masquerading under the banner of the said group.
Governor’s Relationship with Predecessor:
Governor Nwifuru emphasized that no formless group or entity could sow discord between him and his predecessor, David Umahi.
He called on those who were spreading such rumors to cease their efforts, making it clear that his working relationship with Umahi remains strong and unaffected by external influences.
Conclusion:
Governor Francis Nwifuru responded assertively to the calls for his resignation, citing his commitment to forming a capable and professional cabinet.
He urged the people of Ebonyi State to continue supporting his administration and reassured them that he is working diligently to ensure good governance without yielding to pressure from opposition groups.
The governor also emphasized the strong bond he shares with his predecessor, dispelling any rumors suggesting otherwise.
