NDLEA’s Impactful Operation: 46 Indian Hemp Farms Annihilated in Edo State

In a notable achievement, the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) State chapter in Edo revealed the destruction of no fewer than 46 Indian hemp farms.

Buba Wakawa, the State Command’s representative, shared this information during a press briefing held in Benin, emphasizing the agency’s accomplishments in 2023.

Extent of Operation

The farms, covering an expansive 50.4984251 hectares, were eradicated across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.

Wakawa highlighted the agency’s dedication to curbing drug-related activities, showcasing the significant strides taken to eliminate these illicit plantations.

Seizure of Narcotics

In addition to the farm destruction, the NDLEA successfully confiscated a substantial amount of narcotics during the operation.

A total of 17.955 tonnes of hemp and other psychotropic substances were seized, reflecting the agency’s commitment to combatting drug-related issues in the region.

NDLEA’s Advanced Forensic Laboratory Boosts Operations

In a related development, the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Buba Marwa, announced the reopening of an enhanced forensic laboratory.

Marwa emphasized the instrumental role that cutting-edge forensic labs play in effective drug investigations.

Collaborative Progress with International Support

Marwa acknowledged the support of the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, which facilitated the implementation of the initiative in collaboration with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

The forensic laboratory’s reopening is anticipated to enhance the NDLEA’s analytical capabilities, ensuring evidence-based processes and reinforcing the criminal justice system.

Forensic Laboratory’s Crucial Role in the Drug War

Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, reiterated the significance of cutting-edge forensic labs in the nation’s fight against illicit substances.

The laboratory’s advanced analytical equipment is expected to contribute to optimal performance, adhering to standard operational laboratory procedures and best practices.

Marwa’s Perspective on Forensic Labs
