Ncikazi comments on reports of Mhango leaving Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has commented on weekend media reports that Gabadinho Mhango is leaving the club.

On Sunday, Malawian publication, The Nation, quoted Mhango as saying he had a meeting with the Pirates management where his departure was confirmed.

Mhango, as per the publication, revealed how relieved he was that he will be leaving Pirates after his well-documented struggles with game time this term.

The Malawi international was often reduced to a spectactor by the Pirates technical team which is led by both Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.

This despite Mhango’s heroics at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon where he scored three goals to help Malawi reach the knockout stages.

Now, in an interview with Thabiso Mosia on SAFM on Monday, Ncikazi said it wasn’t his place to confirm whether or not Mhango is leaving Pirates.

He said that’s the management’s role, adding that his job as a coach is to work with every player that is available at his disposal.

Ncikazi further reiterated that Mhango will play IF he continues working hard, but warned the striker won’t play if he doesn’t.

“It’s not for me to say whether Mhango is staying or going. I don’t deal with that, it’s for management,” said Ncikazi.

“My job is to coach the team and coach whoever is there. If he continues working hard, he’ll play. If he doesn’t, he must face all the processes of the team,” he added.
