National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) has entered a strategic partnership with Top Taiwan Venture Capital Co., Ltd. to establish the NTHU Future Fund, a new investment initiative aimed at accelerating the commercialization of university research and supporting the growth of deep technology startups.

Partnership Blends Research Excellence With Investment Expertise

The newly launched fund brings together NTHU’s strengths in scientific research, innovation, and talent development with Top Taiwan Venture Capital’s experience in venture financing, corporate partnerships, and capital markets.

The collaboration is intended to bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and commercial applications while creating a stronger pathway for transforming intellectual property into successful businesses.

By combining academic innovation with private-sector investment, the partners hope to strengthen Taiwan’s deep technology ecosystem and encourage the creation of globally competitive startups.

Fund Structure Designed for Long-Term Growth

The NTHU Future Fund has been established as a Limited Partnership (LP), with Top Taiwan Venture Capital responsible for fundraising, investment management, and investment decisions.

NTHU will contribute through trademark licensing, allowing the university to support commercialization efforts while maintaining its educational and public-interest mission.

The partners said the governance model is designed to combine professional investment management with the objectives of a leading research institution, offering a new framework for collaboration between universities and venture capital firms.

Initial NT$1 Billion Target Focuses on High-Growth Technologies

The fund’s first fundraising phase aims to secure approximately NT$1 billion (about US$34 million) and will operate with a planned investment period of 15 years.

Capital will be directed toward startups ranging from seed-stage ventures to companies entering growth phases. Investment priorities include semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, clean energy, and biotechnology.

Special emphasis will be placed on companies established by NTHU faculty members, students, and alumni, as well as businesses collaborating with the university or operating within the NTHU University Science Park (USP).

Supporting Startups Beyond Financial Investment

Beyond providing funding, Top Taiwan Venture Capital plans to offer startups access to its network of corporate partners, strategic advisors, and capital market resources.

The firm will assist entrepreneurs with technology validation, product commercialization, business model development, strategic partnerships, follow-on fundraising, and international market expansion.

The objective is to help innovative technologies progress from academic research into commercially viable products capable of competing in global markets.

Building a Stronger Innovation Ecosystem

The NTHU Future Fund will also work closely with the NTHU University Science Park to connect universities, industry partners, investors, alumni, and other members of Taiwan’s innovation community.

Through this integrated support system, the initiative aims to provide assistance throughout every stage of a startup‘s development—from research and company formation to business scaling and international growth.

Organizers believe the collaborative approach will reduce commercialization timelines, improve startup success rates, and strengthen Taiwan’s long-term competitiveness in deep technology industries.

What’s Next?

With the fund now officially launched, fundraising efforts will continue toward the NT$1 billion target before investments begin.

Eligible startups connected to NTHU’s research and innovation ecosystem are expected to become early beneficiaries as the initiative seeks to accelerate commercialization and expand Taiwan’s presence in global deep technology markets.

Summary

National Tsing Hua University and Top Taiwan Venture Capital have launched the NTHU Future Fund, a new NT$1 billion investment initiative focused on commercializing university research and supporting deep tech startups.

The 15-year fund will invest in sectors such as AI, semiconductors, quantum technology, clean energy, and biotechnology while providing entrepreneurs with financial backing, strategic guidance, and access to global business networks.
