British Transport Police (BTP) have launched an urgent investigation after a woman was allegedly subjected to an attempted rape aboard a London Underground Bakerloo line train late on Saturday night.

Detectives have now released CCTV images of a man they believe could assist with their enquiries and are asking members of the public to help identify him.

The incident is reported to have taken place at approximately 11:40 p.m. while the train was travelling between Waterloo and Lambeth North stations.

Woman Allegedly Attacked While Travelling Alone

According to investigators, the woman was travelling alone when she was approached by an unknown man inside the carriage.

Police allege that the suspect exposed himself before forcibly pulling the woman to the floor and attempting to rape her.

The victim managed to escape the attack by leaving the train at Lambeth North station, where she immediately alerted station staff.

Officers said she has since been receiving specialist support as the investigation continues.

Suspect Believed to Have Continued Journey

Police said the man remained on board the train after the woman fled and later exited the Underground network at Elephant & Castle station.

As detectives retrace his movements, they believe he was seen at Oxford Circus station before the alleged attack and later at Piccadilly Underground station after leaving the Bakerloo line.

Investigators have also stated that one line of enquiry suggests the man may be homeless.

Detectives Appeal for Public Assistance

Detective Sergeant Krishan Appannah described the incident as deeply disturbing and urged anyone who recognises the individual shown in the released CCTV images to come forward.

She said the victim is being supported following what she described as a “horrific incident” and acknowledged that offences of this nature are understandably alarming to the public.

Officers believe identifying the man pictured could provide vital information to help progress the investigation.

How to Provide Information

British Transport Police are asking anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images to send his name by text to 61016, quoting reference 948 of 11 July.

Anyone with additional information or who may have witnessed the incident can also contact BTP by calling 0800 40 50 40. Anonymous reports can be made through Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

Investigation Continues

The investigation remains ongoing as officers examine CCTV footage and gather further evidence to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.

Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with information that could assist in identifying the suspect to come forward.
