While on loan at Besiktas, former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi faced a troubling incident off the field.
Batshuayi, who joined Chelsea from Marseille in a £32 million transfer and later moved through various clubs, claims he was scammed out of £160,000 by an alleged fraudster.
According to reports from HLN, this person posed as a consultant under the alias “HB” and convinced Batshuayi to pay for six months of rent and a vehicle during his stay in Turkey.
However, the car never arrived, and no payments were made for the apartment, leaving Batshuayi both out of pocket and without the agreed services.
A Journey Through Europe and Turkey
Batshuayi’s career has seen its share of moves and loan spells since his days at Stamford Bridge, where he scored 25 goals across 77 appearances, mostly from the bench.
Two years ago, he left Chelsea to join Turkish club Fenerbahce for £3 million before eventually signing with Galatasaray on a free transfer this summer.
During one of his loan stints at Besiktas, he made a solid impact with 14 goals in 42 games, but his off-field experience proved to be much more complicated.
Legal Action and Arrests
After realizing he’d been scammed, Batshuayi filed a complaint with Turkish authorities.
Police arrested the man he identified as responsible, though he was later released under judicial supervision as the investigation continues.
Despite the scam and its financial impact, Batshuayi chose to remain in Turkey, ultimately signing with rivals Fenerbahce in 2022 before moving to Galatasaray.
Rising Tensions and Fan Violence
Batshuayi’s Turkish career has also been marked by high-profile incidents involving fan violence.
Last season, as a Fenerbahce player, he witnessed Trabzonspor fans storming the pitch in a tense match, throwing objects, and even wielding corner flags as weapons.
One of his teammates, Bright Osayi-Samuel, had to fend off an attacker, while Batshuayi himself used a spinning heel kick to disperse a hostile supporter.
Online Threats and Harassment Faced by His Family
The tension didn’t end on the field; Batshuayi’s recent transfer to Galatasaray stirred up further controversies.
His wife, Amely Maria, revealed that their family has received death threats and racist abuse on social media, prompting her to remove certain comments from her Instagram.
In a powerful statement, Amely condemned those targeting their family and called for accountability, stating, “Shame on those who threaten my family and wish death on my child for football.”
Looking Ahead
As Batshuayi continues his career with Galatasaray, he faces both challenges and opportunities in Turkey’s passionate football environment.
Whether the recent scams, fan clashes, and harassment will impact his future on and off the pitch remains to be seen.
