Manqoba Mngqithi Dismisses Fan Criticism and Stays Confident Following Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau’s Exclusion in Sundowns’ 2-0 Victory at Loftus Stadium

When it comes to dealing with criticism, Mamelodi Sundowns’ head coach Manqoba Mngqithi is unshaken.

Recently, he made headlines by leaving Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau out of the starting lineup in a match against SuperSport United, which Sundowns won 2-0 at Loftus Stadium.

Despite the backlash from some fans, Mngqithi remains focused and unfazed.

Staying Out of the Social Media Fray

Mngqithi, who is 52, doesn’t let online chatter get to him.

“One thing that helps me is that I’m not on social media,” he told the media.

“I don’t have to deal with the negativity people might post or send me.

It’s easy to get emotional from the harsh comments and pictures, but I’ve learned not to let that affect me.”

Confidence Built on Experience

With over 20 years in football, Mngqithi knows the score.

“I understand the expectations and realities of this job,” he said.

“If things don’t go well, I know the likely outcomes, but I’m confident in my abilities and high self-esteem.

What others think of me doesn’t define who I am or what I can do.”

Handling the Pressure

Mngqithi’s journey with Sundowns hasn’t been without challenges.

Since taking over from Rulani Mokwena, he faced early setbacks, including a loss in the MTN8 semi-finals.

However, recent back-to-back wins have helped him regain some ground.

“If you listen to everyone, you’ll drive yourself crazy,” he reflected.

“I trust my instincts and skills, and understand that sometimes things don’t go as planned despite your best efforts.”

A Track Record of Success

Before his time with Sundowns, Mngqithi had notable stints with Golden Arrows and AmaZulu.

At Arrows, he won the MTN8 cup in 2009.

“I’ve always made decisions based on what’s best for the team,” he explained.

“Even when I have to make tough choices, I do it with the team’s interest at heart.

I don’t hold grudges and am always ready to support players when they’re ready to contribute.”

Looking Ahead

Now, with his league account finally open, Mngqithi is setting his sights on further success, particularly in the CAF Champions League.

His approach and confidence will be key as he navigates the challenges ahead.
