Gauteng police are following a lead in the investigation into the killing of 14-year-old twin brothers Bothlale and Bonolo Makena, who were found stabbed to death inside their Mamelodi West home.

The boys were discovered by their mother after she returned from work on Friday, 2 October. Both had suffered multiple stab wounds.

No arrests have been made as detectives continue working to establish exactly what happened inside the house.

Investigators Hope New Information Will Provide Answers

Police have confirmed that investigators are following up on information received in connection with the double murder.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said detectives were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths but warned that revealing too much could compromise the investigation.

She said police hoped the information currently being pursued would help them piece together what happened to the teenagers.

Authorities have not revealed the nature of the lead or indicated whether investigators have identified a possible suspect.

No Forced Entry Found at the House

One of the key questions facing investigators is how the attacker or attackers gained access to the property.

Police have found no indication of forced entry at the house, adding another layer of uncertainty to the investigation.

Detectives have also not established a motive for the killings, while the circumstances leading up to the attack remain unclear.

The absence of signs of forced entry is expected to form part of the wider investigation as police examine what happened before the twins were killed.

Government Warns Against Spreading Unverified Claims

Authorities have also appealed to the public to avoid circulating unverified information about the case on social media.

Deputy government spokesperson William Baloyi urged anyone who may have witnessed or heard anything unusual around the time of the killings to come forward.

Information from residents could prove important in helping detectives reconstruct events before and after the attack.

Twins Remembered as Devout Churchgoers

The deaths have left the Mamelodi West community mourning the loss of two teenagers who were described as quiet and committed to their faith.

Ethiopian Catholic Church Bishop Mashilo Mangena said he had baptised Bothlale and Bonolo and was preparing to confirm them as full members of the church.

According to Mangena, the twins regularly attended church classes and were not involved in criminal activity.

Their deaths have therefore raised deep concern in the community, particularly because the boys were killed inside their own home.

Questions Mount Over How the Attack Happened

The killings have left residents searching for answers, including questions about how such a violent attack could take place inside the home without immediately attracting attention.

For now, police have not established who was responsible or why the teenagers were targeted.

Detectives are expected to continue gathering evidence and following up on information that could help identify those responsible.

Police Appeal for Information

With no arrests announced, investigators are relying on information from the public as they work to solve the double murder.

Anyone who may have information about the deaths of Bothlale and Bonolo Makena can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or provide information at their nearest police station.

Police have urged members of the public with relevant information to come forward rather than sharing unverified claims online.
