Louisiana Mayor Tyrin Truong Arrested for Allegedly Hiring Prostitute and Using Public Funds to Rent Airbnb

In a shocking turn of events, the mayor of Bogalusa, Louisiana, has been arrested under allegations of hiring a prostitute and using public funds to rent an Airbnb for the sex worker during a mayor’s conference in Atlanta.

Tyrin Truong, 25, faces multiple charges, including soliciting prostitutes and engaging in transactions involving drug proceeds, according to state police.

Mayor’s Actions Exposed During a State Police Investigation

The arrest of Mayor Truong is the result of an extensive investigation that began in April 2024 by the State Police Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force.

According to Northshore District Attorney Collin Sims, Truong “organized entertainment with a prostitute” while at the conference and used taxpayer money to cover the Airbnb rental.

Authorities also uncovered that Truong had purchased drugs in Louisiana, adding to the severity of his charges.

District Attorney Sims made it clear that this kind of behavior would not be tolerated.

“The citizens of Bogalusa deserve better,” he stated. “We’re not finished. We’re just getting started.”

Drug Trafficking and Firearm Smuggling Linked to Mayor’s Arrest

As the investigation progressed, authorities discovered a local drug trafficking organization in Bogalusa distributing opioids, high-grade marijuana, THC products, and MDMA.

The operation utilized social media to facilitate transactions and manage payments, with profits from the drug sales reportedly used to purchase firearms.

Some of these firearms were smuggled to individuals who were legally prohibited from owning them or were involved in violent crimes in the area.

This investigation ultimately led to the arrest of Truong, along with six other individuals who face charges related to drug offenses.

Among them, three individuals have been charged with conspiracy to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance, while another faces an additional charge of distributing a Schedule II controlled substance.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Reaction

The investigation into Truong’s actions and the surrounding drug trafficking operation is still ongoing.

Authorities have noted that they are examining a variety of other matters and individuals, some of which are connected to the current arrests.

Louisiana Attorney General Liza Murrill expressed strong disapproval of the mayor’s actions, emphasizing that public officials are held to a higher standard.

“We have zero tolerance for wrongdoing, especially from public officials,” Murrill said. “I’m very proud of all of our law enforcement agencies who worked on this investigation.”

Truong’s Political Career and Immediate Consequences

Truong, who was elected as mayor in 2023 at the age of 23, tied for the youngest mayor in state history.

In the wake of his arrest, Gloria Kates, the newly elected president of the Bogalusa City Council, will temporarily step in as mayor, according to former council president Kenny Kellis.

Truong was booked into Washington Parish Jail on Tuesday morning, though no bail has been set yet.

Authorities continue to investigate both the mayor’s personal actions and the larger criminal network he allegedly participated in.
