Load shedding will NOT be implemented in the eThekwini Municipality

The eThekwini Municipality has confirmed that load shedding will not be implemented in its areas on Tuesday, 3 May 2022.

Eskom announced that it will be implementing stage 2 load shedding that will last until Monday, 9 May 2022.

In a statement, Eskom said the rolling blackouts are caused by a shortage of generation capacity owing to delays in returning generators to service as well as breakdowns of nine generations.

In its Facebook, the eThekwini Municipality confirmed that it will remain exempt from the rolling blackouts.

A generation unit each broke down at Lethabo, Tutuka, Ingula, Drakensberg and Arnot Power Stages. While two units each went down at Hendrina and Matla.

Generating units at Arnot, Kendal and three units at Tutuka have been slow to return to service, which is adding to the supply constraints.

The ailing parastatal said it expects many of the broken down units to return to service over the next few days and added that it will rely on the use of its emergency generating reserves to limit load shedding over the next week.

As things stand, 3875MW is unavailable because of planned maintenance while a further 15 067MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.

The power supplier said it would announce any significant changes to the national grid.
