Liz Truss’ win speech

The whole text of Liz Truss’s victory speech is provided below:

‘Well, Sir Graham, thank you. Being chosen as the Conservative and Unionist Party leader is an honor.

I want to express my gratitude to the Conservative Party, the 1922 Committee, and the party chairman for organising one of the longest job interviews in history.

“I appreciate it very much. Additionally, I want to thank my friends, family, colleagues in politics, and everyone else who contributed to this campaign. I really appreciate all of your help.

“I would like to honour my fellow candidates, especially Rishi Sunak. It was a battle-tested campaign. We have, in my opinion, shown the breadth and depth of talent inside the Conservative Party.

“And I also want to thank Boris Johnson, my friend and our departing leader. Boris, you completed Brexit. You destroyed Corbyn. You introduced the vaccine and defied Vladimir Putin. From Carlisle to Kyiv, people admire you.

“Friends and colleagues, I really appreciate your trust in me as the leader of our magnificent Conservative Party, the most powerful political organisation on earth.

“I believe that our ideals in freedom, the opportunity to govern one’s own life, low taxes, and personal responsibility connect with the British people, and I know that’s why people voted for us in such large numbers in 2019. And I plan to fulfil our pledge to those folks throughout our wonderful nation as your party’s leader.

“I ran for this leadership position as a conservative, and I will continue to run for office as a conservative.

“My friends, over the next two years, we must demonstrate that we will deliver.” I’ll provide a daring idea to lower taxes and expand our economy. I will respond to the energy crisis, addressing both the short-term problems we have with the energy supply as well as people’s energy expenditures.

And I will deliver on the National Health Service, we will deliver for everyone in our nation, and I will ensure that we utilise all of the fantastic talents of the Conservative Party, our brilliant MPs and peers, our fantastic councillors, MSs, MSPs, all of our councillors and activists and members all across our nation because, my friends, I know that we will deliver, we will deliver, and we will deliver.

And in 2024, we will deliver a significant victory for the Conservative Party.
