LASTMA Chases Away Scoopers, Cordoned Off Area After Tanker Falls on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

On Thursday, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) successfully averted a potential diesel fire explosion at Obadeyi before Ijaye on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

This after a fully loaded diesel tanker with registration number JJJ 596 XX fell around 6:10 am, spilling its contents on the road. The driver of the tanker fled the scene after the incident.

LASTMA personnel immediately arrived at the scene and chased away scoopers who had started gathering to scoop diesel with buckets and jerry cans. They also cordoned off the entire vicinity to prevent a possible fire eruption.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, including Lasema Response Unit, were also called to the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the tanker driver lost control due to a brake failure at Obadeyi.

As a result of the incident, traffic was rerouted at Hamadiya, affecting both the Hamadiya Hospital Way and the lanes opposite those leading from the toll gate.
