Former Kaizer Chiefs player, Junior Khanye, shared his thoughts on Andile Jali’s fitness after Chippa United suffered a 3-0 loss to Amakhosi in a Nedbank Cup match on Saturday.
Khanye wasn’t impressed with Jali’s performance, expressing concerns over his fitness levels.
Khanye’s Take on Jali’s Fitness
Khanye, who has seen it all in his own career, was clear in his criticism.
“I just don’t understand why they brought Andile Jali in.
I like him, but right now, he’s not in the best shape to be playing,” Khanye said in an interview with iDiski TV. “You can tell he’s not match fit.
I really admire him, but he’s not ready for this kind of competition.”
Jali, a former Orlando Pirates star, struggled to make an impact during the game.
Since his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns, the 34-year-old midfielder has had a hard time getting back to his peak form.
Comparing Jali’s Struggles to His Own
Khanye went on to reflect on Jali’s personal journey, drawing parallels between their experiences.
“He’s been through a lot, honestly,” Khanye said.
“It’s kind of like what I went through in my career. He’s had some scandals, and that probably played a part in why he left Sundowns.
His reputation took a hit, and I know how that feels.”
Khanye, who made his own exit from Kaizer Chiefs to play for Platinum Stars, believes Jali’s situation is filled with frustration.
“When you’ve been in a big club and things don’t go right, it messes with your head.
You think about how you might have disappointed the people who supported you, and it becomes hard to bounce back.”
Khanye’s Advice for Jali
Khanye also advised Jali to consider working with a personal trainer to get back to his best shape and become match-fit again.
Despite this, Chippa United coach Thabo September defended Jali’s role in the team.
September’s Support for Jali
“We know Andile’s been dealing with some injuries.
He had a muscle strain recently, and he’s on the road to recovery,” September said. “But he’s still very much a part of our plans.
He’s helping out a lot with the younger players, like Giovanni Philander, Papama Tyongwana, and Boy Madingwane.
He’s playing a key role in their development.”
September added, “Once he’s fully fit, he’ll be an important player for us.
He still has plenty to offer on the field.”
