PSV Eindhoven may have hit a rough patch in their domestic league, but Ivan Perisic remains confident that they have what it takes to take down Arsenal in their Champions League showdown.
The Dutch champions, despite a recent stumble against Go Ahead Eagles, have proven themselves on the European stage, knocking out both Liverpool and Juventus on their way to the last 16.
Perisic Believes in PSV’s Potential
Perisic, who previously had a short stint at Tottenham, acknowledged Arsenal’s quality but pointed out their struggles in crossing the final hurdle when it comes to winning major trophies.
Speaking ahead of the first-leg clash at the Philips Stadion, he shared his thoughts on the matchup.
“It’s going to be tough, they’re a really good team—young, talented, and well-coached,” Perisic said.
“But over the years, they’ve always been missing something that keeps them from truly stepping up and winning.
If we are fully prepared, we have a good chance to beat them.
The Champions League is special—it brings out the best in teams.”
Defensive Concerns for PSV
While PSV has been an attacking force at home, their defensive record has been shaky.
They haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last seven Eredivisie matches, conceding three goals in their latest defeat.
However, manager Peter Bosz isn’t planning to change the team’s aggressive approach.
Bosz Sticking to His Attacking Philosophy
When asked if PSV would take a more cautious approach against Arsenal, Bosz stood firm on his tactical principles.
“Defending starts with attacking,” he explained.
“We put pressure on the ball right away, which allows us to win it back quickly.
That way, we don’t have to defend as much. Football is complex, and success isn’t about just one factor—it’s about getting all the small details right.
We’re working hard on that, and ultimately, I take responsibility for improving those details.”
What’s Next?
With their attacking mindset and a belief in their ability to rise to the occasion, PSV will be looking to capitalize on home advantage.
Arsenal, on the other hand, will aim to prove that they have the missing piece to finally go the distance in European competition.
The stage is set for an exciting battle—who will take the upper hand?
