Senator Ali Ndume Unfazed by National Assembly’s Vehicle Choices

Senator Ali Ndume’s Perspective

Senator Ali Ndume, the Senate Chief Whip, recently expressed his indifference towards the type of vehicles approved for Senators by the National Assembly leadership.

In an interview on Arise News’ Morning Show, he shared his views on the matter.

No Concern Over Vehicle Choices

Senator Ndume made it clear that the brand of vehicles provided for elected officials is of no concern to him. He emphasized that buying exotic vehicles for official use by elected officials is not a novel practice and is in line with constitutional provisions.

Constitutional Legitimacy

Furthermore, Senator Ndume defended the decision to procure sophisticated vehicles, citing the deplorable state of the country’s roads as a compelling reason.

He emphasized that as no vehicles are manufactured in Nigeria, sophisticated vehicles are a necessity for lawmakers to effectively carry out their functions.

The National Assembly’s Vehicle Expenditure

The controversy stems from the National Assembly leadership’s declaration to purchase exotic vehicles worth N160 million each for lawmakers and bulletproof vehicles for principal officers.

The estimated cost for the SUVs for all Senators and House of Representatives members amounts to N57.6 billion.

Public Outrage and National Assembly’s Vehicle Spending

This decision has sparked public outrage, especially in the face of a significant national debt and increasing poverty rates in Nigeria.

The expenditure on vehicles by the National Assembly has ignited a heated public debate.
