Holly Willoughby had no idea her Glastonbury experience would take such an unexpected and, quite frankly, unpleasant turn.
The former This Morning host recently shared a rather amusing yet relatable story during her appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
Sitting alongside the legendary Sir Elton John, Holly opened up about the moment she found herself scrubbing down a festival toilet after his unforgettable performance in 2024.
The 43-year-old television star recalled being completely in awe during Elton’s set, describing the atmosphere as magical.
“It was like the entire crowd was moving as one,” she gushed.
But the magic didn’t last long. As soon as the show ended, thousands of festivalgoers rushed to the dreaded Glastonbury loos, and that’s when things took a turn for the worse.
A Toilet Catastrophe at Glastonbury
Holly, like everyone else, had to face the infamous festival restrooms.
But when she finally entered a cubicle, she was horrified at what she saw. “It was disgusting,” she admitted.
“But when you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go.”
She then described the moment she realized she couldn’t just leave the mess for the next person.
“I was standing on the loo—I mean, you wouldn’t want to sit down! And I thought, ‘Oh no, whoever comes in next will think this was me.’”
Her solution? A thorough clean-up using her trusty pack of wet wipes. “I wiped that toilet until it was spotless,” she laughed.
“One minute, I was in pure bliss watching Elton, and the next, I was on my hands and knees scrubbing a festival loo.
Talk about a reality check!”
Elton John Reflects on His Legendary Performance
While Holly had her fair share of post-concert drama, Elton John had his own emotional moment reflecting on his first-ever Glastonbury performance.
The I’m Still Standing singer admitted he had been hesitant to take the stage at the festival, fearing he wouldn’t be well received.
But the experience turned out to be one of the highlights of his career.
“I don’t think I have ever been that happy in my whole life,” the 77-year-old singer revealed.
“It was one of the greatest days of my life, and it really confirmed that things couldn’t get any better.”
From Music Festivals to the Jungle
Beyond music, Holly is stepping into an entirely new world with her latest television project, Celebrity Bear Hunt. The physically demanding survival series, filmed in the jungles of Costa Rica, is a major departure from her usual TV roles.
Speaking to Graham Norton, she admitted that the experience pushed her completely out of her comfort zone. “The magic of Bear [Grylls] is that he’s so convincing and inspirational.
He even got me to do things I never thought I would! And trust me, I’m the most scared person ever.”
The show, which features a star-studded lineup including Mel B from the Spice Girls, Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas, and The Saturdays’ Una Healy, has already made headlines.
Contestants must endure grueling challenges, and those who struggle the most face a tense elimination round—where Bear Grylls himself hunts them down.
A Challenging Year and Family Reflections
Holly’s return to TV follows a turbulent period in her personal and professional life.
After stepping away from This Morning in 2023, she has been open about the challenges of adjusting to life at home.
She candidly spoke about reconnecting with her three children, Harry, Belle, and Chester, after years of early morning television commitments. “It’s been really tough for all of us,” she admitted.
The transition from the fast-paced world of live TV to daily family life has been an adjustment, but she’s embracing the change.
Fans can catch Holly’s full interview on The Graham Norton Show, airing on BBC One on Friday, January 31st, at 10:40 pm, with episodes available on BBC iPlayer.
