Political commentator and livestreamer Hasan Piker has expressed concern after learning that a Cuban national reportedly connected to his recent trip to Cuba was detained by U.S. authorities, saying during a livestream that he fears he could become a target of the Trump administration.

Piker made the remarks while reacting live to reports surrounding the federal detention of Carlos Antonio Lloga Dominguez, who has been accused by U.S. officials of operating on behalf of the Cuban government.

Streamer Says He Fears Political Targeting

During his broadcast, Piker interrupted his commentary after reading the news report and voiced alarm over the situation.

He suggested that the arrest signaled a broader crackdown and claimed he was worried about the possibility of facing legal consequences himself.

Piker also criticized the current political climate, comparing recent government actions to historical periods of political repression and accusing both Republicans and some Democrats of targeting political activists.

Federal Authorities Detain Cuban National

The case centers on Carlos Antonio Lloga Dominguez, a Cuban national who has reportedly lived in the United States for more than a decade.

According to the U.S. State Department, Lloga Dominguez worked for the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), which U.S. officials describe as an organization involved in advancing Cuban government influence operations abroad.

Authorities have placed Lloga Dominguez, along with his wife and son, in federal custody pending immigration removal proceedings.

Reports Link Detainee to Piker’s Cuba Visit

Media reports have stated that Lloga Dominguez was among the individuals involved in facilitating Piker’s visit to Cuba earlier this year.

Responding to those claims, Piker said during his livestream that he did not personally know the individual and questioned the characterization of the organization mentioned in news coverage.

He also indicated that he did not fully understand why the connection between the detainee and his trip had become a focus of public reporting.

Cuba Trip Organized by Progressive Groups

Piker traveled to Cuba in March as part of the “Nuestra América Convoy,” a delegation that included hundreds of participants.

The trip was organized by several progressive activist organizations, including CodePink, the ANSWER Coalition, the People’s Forum and Progressive International.

Following the visit, Piker produced online content highlighting his experiences in Cuba, including interviews and appearances featuring senior Cuban government officials.

Treasury Previously Reviewed Cuba Travel

Earlier reports indicated that the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had issued administrative subpoenas related to the Cuba trip.

According to those reports, investigators sought financial records and information concerning travel arrangements, funding and contacts with Cuban government representatives.

The reported inquiry included requests involving both Piker and CodePink co-founder Medea Benjamin as authorities examined compliance with U.S. sanctions and travel regulations.

Investigation Continues Amid Heightened Scrutiny

The recent detention of Lloga Dominguez has renewed attention on U.S. enforcement efforts involving Cuba-related activities and organizations.

While no charges against Piker were described in the reported developments, the streamer said he remains concerned about the direction of the government’s actions and believes they could have wider implications for activists and political commentators who have participated in similar international engagements.
