Handrè Pollard Set to Leave Leicester Tigers at the End of the Season with Tokyo Sungoliath Leading the Race for His Services

Handrè Pollard’s Potential Move to Japan

As the season draws to a close, it looks like Handrè Pollard, the talented Springbok fly-half, will be leaving Leicester Tigers.

This opens the door for a possible lucrative move abroad, with several Japanese clubs reportedly keen on securing his signature.

Among the interested teams, Tokyo Sungoliath is emerging as the front-runner to land the 30-year-old star.

If this move happens, Pollard would reunite with his Springbok teammate, Cheslin Kolbe, making for an exciting partnership in Japan’s League One Conference B.

Pollard’s Future Uncertain

Pollard has been tight-lipped about his future and remains undecided on where he’ll be playing next season.

In a December interview with BBC Radio Leicester, he admitted, “I have no idea.

I can tell you the truth, I do not know yet what I’m doing or where I’m going.”

However, he’s clear about one thing—he’s thoroughly enjoying his time at Leicester.

“I’m just happy being at Leicester and I will enjoy every minute I have here,” he added.

According to Pollard, enjoying the game and the camaraderie with the team is crucial, especially during a long season.

“We have to play hard and be on it every week, but the enjoyment element is so important in a rugby group.”

Concerns Over Eben Etzebeth’s Injury

On the other hand, the Springbok squad has been dealing with a serious injury concern regarding Eben Etzebeth.

The veteran lock suffered a concussion during a match against Exeter Chiefs in the European Champions Cup on December 7 and has yet to return to action.

A spokesperson from the Sharks shared an update, confirming that Etzebeth has experienced a recurrence of symptoms from his concussion.

“Eben is being managed by concussion specialists,” they said.

“He will be cleared to return once they are satisfied his injury has completely resolved.

” Player welfare is a top priority, and his recovery is being carefully monitored.

Looking Ahead for the Springboks

With several key players like Pollard and Etzebeth uncertain about their futures, all eyes are on how the Springboks will navigate these changes.

The next chapter for both players—and the team as a whole—remains to be written as we head into 2025.
