After a week of warm, sunny conditions, residents in Gauteng and several other provinces can expect a dramatic shift in the weather this weekend.
The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across multiple regions, including the Northern Cape, Free State, North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo.
Additionally, there are warnings of extreme fire risks in parts of the Western Cape and Northern Cape.

Gauteng, in particular, is set to experience severe thunderstorms as temperatures dip into the low 20s this weekend.
The weather service predicts storms will affect areas such as the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the western and southern Free State, the eastern and southwestern parts of North West, most of Gauteng, the northwestern parts of Mpumalanga, and south-central Limpopo.

Looking at the weekend forecast, Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 27°C on Friday, with cloudy skies.
Johannesburg will see a high of 25°C, with a 30% chance of rain.
As the weekend progresses, both cities are expected to see a higher chance of thunderstorms, with a 60% chance of thundershowers on Saturday and Sunday.

The weather service has also warned of a significant drop in temperatures starting on Saturday, which will carry into the early part of next week.
While a small chance of rain remains in the forecast for next week, temperatures are expected to stay cool, with overcast conditions.
