Former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has joined venture studio Red Cell Partners in a major leadership appointment, becoming a partner, chairman, and member of the company’s board of directors.

The announcement marks Youngkin’s return to the private sector after serving as Virginia’s 74th governor, while also drawing on his extensive experience as the former Co-Chief Executive Officer of The Carlyle Group.

Red Cell Strengthens Leadership Team

Red Cell Partners, headquartered in McLean, Virginia, said Youngkin’s appointment will help advance its mission of building and growing technology companies focused on critical national priorities.

Since its establishment in 2020, the venture studio has concentrated on launching and scaling businesses that develop solutions in national security, cybersecurity, and healthcare.

The company was founded by Chief Executive Officer Grant Verstandig and has positioned itself as a venture builder that combines operational expertise, strategic investment, and industry knowledge to accelerate innovation in sectors considered essential to the country’s future.

Youngkin Highlights Red Cell’s Investment Strategy

Speaking about his decision to join the firm, Youngkin praised Red Cell’s approach to venture creation, describing it as a model that blends visionary leadership, operational experience, and access to both internal capital and leading venture investment partners.

He said the organization’s ability to unite experienced operators with financial backing creates a unique environment for developing companies capable of addressing complex challenges in strategically important industries.

Cites Successful Portfolio Companies

Youngkin also pointed to the momentum already achieved by Red Cell, emphasizing the strong performance of several businesses developed within the venture studio.

He highlighted companies including Trase, Claros, and Hunted Labs as examples of Red Cell’s recent successes, while also noting its investment in Epirus.

According to Youngkin, these accomplishments demonstrate the firm’s ability to identify opportunities and transform innovative concepts into high-impact businesses.

Focus on Critical National Challenges

Youngkin said Red Cell’s concentration on national security, cybersecurity, and healthcare distinguishes it from many traditional venture capital firms.

He noted that the technologies being developed are designed to solve mission-critical problems affecting both key industries and the broader national interest.

By directing resources toward these sectors, he said the company is helping create practical solutions that support security, resilience, and improved healthcare outcomes while contributing to long-term technological advancement.
