Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Expresses Outrage Over Delayed Military Support and Urges Stronger NATO Response to Russian Aggression

Boris Johnson didn’t hold back when discussing Vladimir Putin’s aggressive pursuit of Russia’s imperial past.

The former UK Prime Minister openly labeled the Russian leader a “f***ing idiot” for attempting to recreate a Russian empire.

Johnson stressed that countries like Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania would never be part of the “Russian imperium” again, declaring, “It’s over – over, over, over.”

A Stark Warning for the West

Johnson’s remarks weren’t just directed at Putin but also served as a wake-up call to the West.

He warned that Western powers were in retreat, with leaders like Donald Trump potentially less inclined to support Ukraine unless NATO countries increased their defense spending.

Johnson emphasized that NATO’s failure to push for Ukraine’s membership was a missed opportunity to deter further Russian invasions, urging a renewed focus on securing Ukraine’s future within the alliance.

NATO’s Failures and Germany’s Role

The former Prime Minister also voiced his frustration with NATO members, particularly Germany, for their reluctance to meet defense spending targets while simultaneously demanding that the U.S. do more to support Ukraine.

He called it “absurd” for countries to expect full assistance from the Trump administration without taking responsibility themselves.

Johnson also criticized Germany’s stance on Ukrainian aid, particularly their refusal to send frozen Russian assets to Ukraine despite pushing for support from other NATO members.

Frustration with Delays in Military Aid

Johnson expressed his frustration with the slow delivery of military aid to Ukraine, particularly the delay in sending British anti-tank missiles.

According to him, bureaucratic obstacles within the UK’s Foreign Office and other government agencies caused significant delays, leaving Ukraine vulnerable in the critical months before Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Johnson’s Leadership in Rallying Support for Ukraine

Johnson is credited with playing a key role in rallying European support for Ukraine following Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

He was the first Western leader to visit Kyiv after the war broke out, returning to the city twice during his time in office to show continued solidarity with Ukraine.
