After more than two decades of sports debates, ESPN’s popular show Around the Horn is set to air its final episode on May 23, 2025, marking the end of a significant era in sports broadcasting.
The End of a Long-Running Debate Show
The show, which has been a staple for sports fans since its debut in November 2002, has aired almost 5,000 episodes, featuring heated debates and quick-witted panelists.
It has become known for its unique format where four sports experts debate various topics, earning points for their arguments while trying to avoid being muted by the host.
Tony Reali’s Longstanding Role and the Show’s Legacy
Since 2004, Tony Reali has been the face of Around the Horn, moderating discussions on major sports stories with a lively group of panelists.
The show has featured many familiar names over the years, such as Jemele Hill, Mina Kimes, and Bomani Jones, each bringing their own flair to the fast-paced debates.
Changes Coming to ESPN’s Programming Lineup
The news of the show’s cancellation first broke in November 2024, with ESPN confirming that a 30-minute edition of SportsCenter would replace Around the Horn during its 5 p.m. ET weekday slot this summer.
A Farewell to a Landmark Show in Sports Media
David Roberts, an ESPN executive, acknowledged the show’s immense success over its 23-year run, saying, “Around the Horn has had a remarkable run of more than two decades.
That kind of longevity in media is incredibly rare, and we look forward to celebrating the show’s many accomplishments before the final sign-off in May.”
He also took a moment to thank Tony Reali and the team behind the scenes, highlighting the contributions of producers Erik Rydholm and Aaron Solomon, whose leadership helped maintain the show’s success over the years.
